Consumerism is the act of consuming products or services most of the time without the conscience of the act or the consequences.
Currently and now for many years exist many discussions about this subject,the possible consequences of consumerism and how much the companies through advertising and through the industrial culture play in society.
Many say they induce unnecessary consumerism and this comes strongly from the phenomenon of the contemporary society which was triggered by the industrial revolution where the productions were made in large quantities and was result of that appears the excessive amounts of products that our economy would´t even need if they didn´t exist.
But according to the Law of Supply and Demand the market sets high,
and people start to buy thing they wouldn´t need to survive, and by that i mean people no longer consume only to survive or to live a plenty life but they consume in extremes.
I can say that people nowadays buy things with the money they don´t have to impress people they don´t know, and all of this has consequences witch are the deaths of millions of animals and makes the environment to degrade slowly and slowly, year by year.
It has emerged as a response to this environmental organizations and groups of people who refuse to consume meat ( vegetarians) or any product that comes from animals ( vegans).
From there it would be easy to say that consumerism is totally wrong.
But as everything has two sides of the coin there are also pros in consumerism,
without consumerism economy would not exist since the economy have been the act of consumption and one other pro is that development comes from consumerism, it comes with the need that consumers have to buy new products, it comes from one other thing, the companies having the need to be competitive with each other and by that i mean they need to create better products with more quality.
In conclusion i might say that im not against consumerism because that would be extremely ironic because i like to have things that are considered superfluous and i so also like to have comfort that is provide by technological innovation.
But im against extreme consumerism.
